Lose Weight Quickly - How I Lost 25 Pounds in 2 Months

Cutting calories and losing weight quickly has never really been my thing; regardless, my double chin was becoming quite apparent and it was time to lose some weight. Have you been in a situation where you know you need to make a change in your lifestyle but you didn’t know where to start? I was able to lose 25 pounds in 2 months and keep it off by making three simple changes in my diet.

1. I started eating a big breakfast.

Ironic, I know. Having a big breakfast helps you stay full longer. If you are eating proper foods, a healthy breakfast might look something like,

- 5 Egg whites + 1 egg yolk on two pieces of whole wheat toast.

Or I might have,

- Half a cup of oatmeal with a protein shake and a scoop of peanut butter.

When having a large nutritious breakfast I found myself less likely to crash and binge eat later in the afternoon and evening.

2. Replacing simple carbohydrates with green carbohydrates.

A great green carbohydrate is spinach, not only is it high in vitamins and minerals, it is low in calories. One cup is just seven calories. Having two cups of pasta, the calories and carbohydrates add up quickly, however, having two cups of spinach is virtually nothing. Spinach salad makes for a fantastic lunch. Just chop up a boneless skinless chicken breast and toss it on top of a bed of spinach, add some low fat dressing and your done. A healthy meal that only takes 10 minutes to make.

3. Only protein after 8pm.

Since your body stores excess carbohydrates that it doesn’t use as fat, it’s best to have the bulk of your carbohydrates at breakfast and post workout. Towards the end of the night you want to taper off the carbohydrates and stick to high protein, low carbohydrate foods and drinks.

A high protein snack before bed may include a couple glasses of milk, protein shake, yogurt or cottage cheese.

Cottage cheese is an excellent source of protein, if you can stand the taste. If you can’t, try adding some flavored yogurt to it. Sounds weird doesn’t it? Try it.

With cottage cheese you are getting a casein based protein which is slower digesting than whey protein. Providing on average 16 grams of protein per half cup with a little over 100 calories, it is the perfect pre bed snack.

Often you tend to get hungry at night, that is when binge eating starts. You go for anything you can get your hands on and don’t stop until the bag is empty. If you know you are going to be up for a little longer have some peanut butter or some kind of healthy fat source. Healthy fats are great for you and they are the most filling compared to carbohydrates or protein. Fat is calorie dense, 9 calories per gram. Keep that in mind.

Controlling calories at night time had a major impact on my success as far as losing weight quickly goes.

These three small changes in my diet helped me drop from 205 pounds to a lean 180 pounds in just 2 months.

By doing this and looking at your goals everyday, you will be able to focus so well on your end goal, that your weight loss program will speed by with fantastic results. During any down moments, by focusing daily on your weight loss goal, you will be able to motivate yourself into success!

Fast Weight Loss Principle #2: Monitor your progress. Keep a weight loss journal (or call it what you want) with you everyday. No matter what your drive to exercise might be the fact you need to be there with your child limits your options for exercising. However, there are many options you can implement to use your time creatively to get some exercise. A few examples include:



Stroller Jogging - Get yourself a new stroller with good wheels for high speeds and jog when taking your child down to the shops or just around the block.

Incidental Exercise - Instead of taking the lift take the stairs! Instead of using the remote control get up and change the channel by hand. See everything that must be done as a way you can get some exercise it all adds up.

Exercising With Bubs - Ever do sit ups? How about sit ups while holding your child harder but better and you get to spend time with the child! There are many gentle exercises you can do with your child without putting them in any danger and giving you a chance to exercise … get creative!



Eating is also a real problem when you have a child, the time you took to cook good food has been replaced with caring for a baby and it always seems easier to get take away or something canned, quick and easy from the fridge or pantry. While nothing can give you more time here is a tips for losing weight after pregnancy: use your time more wisely buy making bulk lots of good healthy food when you have a chance and freeze the rest to be eaten later. You can spend an extra half an hour one day to save many hours in other days and you get good (if reheated) food. Also the temptation to snack is very high when running around being a mother and this does not have to stop, just make sure you get rid of the chocolate and instead keep some fruit and muesli bars to replace them!

Solid And Effective: The South Beach Diet

As a practicing cardiologist Dr Arthur Agatson was getting more and more frustrated when his patients failed to lose weight. They were faithfully following the standard, low-fat American Heart Association diet on his advice, with no results. He noticed that, not only didn’t they lose weight, but their blood chemistry did not improve. The results he was looking for was an increase in HDL (good cholesterol) and a decrease in LDL (bad cholesterol). Eventually, he developed a new diet specifically for his patients, which later became the basis for his best seller book, The South Beach Diet, which was first published in April 2003. The South Beach Diet was on the New York Times best seller list for more than 96 consecutive weeks, and in excess of 8.5 million copies have been printed. The book was listed as #1 on the New York Times Bestseller list for 38 weeks.

Like many other so-called “low carb” diets, the South Beach Diet assumes that many of us are addicted to carbohydrate-rich foods. The South Beach Diet is very similar to the Atkins Diet. They are so similar that many people believe the South Beach Diet is just a revised version of the Atkins Diet. The first phases for both diets are designed to get rid of the body’s addition to carbohydrates. Where the Atkins Diet has four phases, the South Beach Diet only has three, with a single phase replacing the second and third phases of Atkins. The last phases of both diets, again, are very similar. Since greater variety of foods are introduced earlier on in the South Beach Diet Plan, dieters tend to lose weight at a slightly slower pace than those on Atkins, but many find the South Beach Diet easier to follow because it is less restrictive.

This diet focuses heavily on balancing the blood sugar levels, and as such, the Glycemic Index plays a very important role in this diet. The Glycemic Index is a ranking system for carbohydrates based on their effect on blood sugar. On the South Beach Diet, carbohydrates are selected using the Glycemic Index tables; the lower the ranking the better. This also leads us to one of the South Beach Diet’s major differences from the Atkins diet. The South Beach Diet allows most carbohydrates (preferably only those high in fiber, like multi-grain bread and wild rice), while these products are typically just too high in carbohydrates for an Atkins follower, even on the maintenance phase.

Another area where the approaches of Atkins and Agatston differ quite drastically is on the healthy intake of fats. Atkins followers are encouraged to ingest saturated and monounsaturated fats in the first phase, and then gradually reduce the saturated fat content of meals during later phases as more carbohydrates are introduced. Dr. Agatston advocates mostly monounsaturated fats, like those found in olive oil, nuts and oily fish like salmon, throughout his diet. You will not find butter, bacon or anything fried in the South Beach meal plans, whereas they are positively encouraged during the first Atkins phases.

One of the benefits of the South Beach Diet over many of its competitors is that Kraft Foods entered into an alliance with Dr Agatston. Together they launched a whole range of South Beach Diet convenience products, which covers breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and even snacks. Examples of the convenience food on offer include breakfast cereal, meal replacement bars, frozen pizzas and frozen entrees. Dr Agatston once stated “My goal is to help change the way America eats, and these great-tasting, nutrient-rich products from Kraft are convenient, making it easier for people to follow The South Beach Diet - whether for a healthy lifestyle or weight loss.”

As with many of the other popular diet books on the market, it is very difficult to find specific scientific proof for the South Beach Diet. Some aspects of the diet may have been scientifically studied and reviewed, for example the benefits of monounsaturated fats, or the benefits of regulating your blood sugar. In general though, it is safe to say that the South Beach Diet is based on sound principles, and can offer you a well-balanced and sustainable way of life.
